Montessori education refers to a scientific way of supporting true natural development in children. It began when Dr. Maria Montessori who was engaged in observing young children in Rome, Italy in 1907. Allowing them to freely interact with various self-teaching materials, she discovered the child’s true nature, having such normal qualities as spontaneous self-discipline, love of order, and perfect harmony with the environment. Montessori teaching that brings about this true nature in children is a scientific way of being committed to laws of nature that functions to control the environment, not the child.
